Is AI safe for kids? Nine questions to ask any app
AI tools for kids are new, and their safety varies a lot. These questions work for any app, including ours. Next to each one is what to look for, and how Vibe Kids™ answers it.
-
Who is it made for?
Look forCheck the terms for a minimum age. Many general AI tools are 13+ only.
Vibe Kids™Kids aged 6 and up, through an account you set up.
-
What does it collect about my kid?
Look forLook for a short, plain list. Real names, birthdays and photos should not be needed.
Vibe Kids™A nickname and a color you choose. Chats, games and the languages they write in. Never real names, emails, birthdays, photos or where you live.
-
Are chats used to train AI?
Look forSome services train on conversations unless you opt out.
Vibe Kids™Never. Our AI provider may not use them for training either.
-
What stops grown-up content?
Look forAsk whether every message is filtered, both ways.
Vibe Kids™Strict safety filters on every message and game, a word list tuned to the languages your family speaks, and cartoon-level action only.
-
Can strangers contact my kid?
Look forChat between users is the biggest risk in most kids' apps.
Vibe Kids™Kids can't message each other, and shared games never show who made them.
-
Who sees what they make?
Look forCheck whether things are public by default.
Vibe Kids™Games are private. Share links only work after you turn sharing on, and you can switch any link off.
-
Are there ads or trackers?
Look forAd networks and analytics often load on kids' sites.
Vibe Kids™None. Nothing on the site loads from any other company.
-
Can I see everything and delete it?
Look forYou should be able to review, download and delete.
Vibe Kids™Yes, from the grown-ups page, for any game, profile or the whole account.
-
Does it push kids to stay longer?
Look forStreaks, countdowns and leaderboards keep kids hooked.
Vibe Kids™No streaks, timers or leaderboards. Stars are just for fun.
Questions parents ask
Is any AI app completely safe for kids?
No tool can promise that, and you should be wary of any that does. What you can look for is careful design: filters on every message, no contact with strangers, little data kept, and you in charge.
What happens if my kid types something rude?
The helper assumes it was an accident, doesn't repeat the word, and suggests something else to build. Kids are never punished or locked out.
