How to make your own video game

You don't need to know how to code yet. You need an idea and the words to say it. Follow the path, one step at a time.

  1. Pick a start

Choose a starter game, like a kart race or a café, or start with a blank page and your own idea.

Not sure what to make? Try one of our game ideas.

  2. Make it yours

Change one thing you can see. A color, a speed, a size. Type it like you'd say it.

Try: “Make the sky orange like a sunset.”

  3. Meet your hero

Give your hero a name and a look. Draw them yourself, or ask the helper to.

    Learn more about drawing characters.

  4. Give it a goal

A game needs something to do. Collect stars? Reach a flag? Serve every customer?

Try: “I win when I collect 10 stars.”

  5. Test like a pro

Play it lots. Is it too easy? Too hard? Does anything break? Say what to fix.

Try: “The jump is too short to reach the last platform.”

  6. Share it

When a grown-up says yes, you get a link friends can play in any browser.

You can also download your game and keep it.

Three words real game makers use

Sprite
A picture the game moves around, like your hero.
Bug
Something that doesn't work the way you wanted. Every game has them at first.
Play-test
Playing your game to find what to fix next.

Before you start

A grown-up sets up Vibe Kids™ for you, and they decide when you can start. Show them the page for grown-ups about the game maker if you'd like to try it.
